Journal of Digital Earth and Engineering (JDEE) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing cutting-edge research, computational breakthroughs, and technological innovations at the intersection of Digital Earth frameworks, virtual geographic environments, geospatial engineering, and smart physical infrastructure. Serving as an intellectual platform for geospatial computer scientists, civil engineers, remote sensing specialists, geomaticians, and urban digital twin architects, JDEE explores the digital representation, simulation, and engineering optimization of Earth systems. The journal prioritizes high-impact scholarship that harnesses high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, sensor webs, and multi-dimensional spatial modeling to monitor natural phenomena and engineer resilient, data-driven built environments.

Scope and Topics

JDEE welcomes original empirical research articles, computational modeling studies, technological implementations, and comprehensive reviews across Digital Earth and spatial engineering domains. Key thematic areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Digital Earth Frameworks & Spatial Infrastructure: Global spatial data infrastructures (SDI), cloud-based geospatial computing, Earth observation big data platforms, virtual geographic environments (VGE), and 3D/4D planetary modeling.

  • Geospatial AI & Earth Informatics: GeoAI, computer vision for satellite and aerial imagery, automated feature extraction, spatial machine learning, and multi-sensor data fusion.

  • Smart Engineering & Digital Twins: Urban digital twins, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and GIS integration, cyber-physical infrastructure monitoring, and smart city spatial engineering.

  • Remote Sensing, Geodesy & Terrain Engineering: Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) interferometry, airborne and terrestrial LiDAR, GNSS engineering applications, and high-resolution terrain mapping.

  • Environmental & Hazard Modeling: Computational simulation of geohazards, hydrological modeling, coastal erosion analytics, climate impact spatial simulations, and automated disaster early-warning architectures.

Publication Frequency

Journal of Digital Earth and Engineering (JDEE) is published triannually (3 issues per year: April, August, and December), operating an online-first continuous publishing model to ensure rapid editorial decisions and immediate global open-access dissemination.

Peer Review Process

To uphold academic integrity, computational soundness, and engineering rigor, JDEE enforces a strict double-anonymous peer review protocol. All submitted manuscripts undergo preliminary editorial screening to assess scope relevance, originality, structural integrity, and plagiarism index metrics (adhering to COPE standards). Manuscripts passing desk review are evaluated by at least two independent international experts specializing in geoinformatics, remote sensing, or computational engineering. Review criteria center on theoretical depth, algorithmic/methodological precision, data validity, computational reproducibility, and practical engineering relevance.

Mission Statement: "The mission of Journal of Digital Earth and Engineering is to advance the global understanding and computational simulation of planetary and engineered systems by publishing rigorous, data-driven, and open-access scholarship, bridging Digital Earth technologies with modern engineering practice to foster intelligent, resilient, and sustainable environments worldwide."
